Forgot mobile password.. here comes the rescue !
Hi Guys, how do you do? August is going to end. We have embarked on the year of google Oreo. Hell yes, its Oreo time for many Nexus and pixel users. For me, the year starts when google announces a new version of AOSP. For some, it starts with new iphone launch. Anyway, I hope the last post of mine helped to buy a budget mobile. Well, as promised, today I am going to show you the trick of unlocking a mobile which is already locked and you do not know the password. Wait, just before you jump onto the conclusion, let me be very clear, its only for people who are troubled with forgetting password and they have not enabled any other unlocking mode. There are many methods. But, let me tell you some of the easy methods for you.
These methods will only work if you have created an account of google in the mobile and you may loose apps and data etc. I recommend to back up your device periodically. It may vary mobile to mobile.
Method-1:
The first method is ANDROID DEVICE MANAGER or FIND MY DEVICE.
well have you heard of it? yes or no..but Go to play store and install it in any nearby Android device other than locked device. Connect it to internet and enable location.
The device which is locked, normally enables you to use the status bar. You first enable mobile data or wifi (Via auto connect, manual connect wont work) and then location. Once you connected in the locked device, now go the other device in which find my device app is installed. Open the app, go to guest log in. Now log in the same google account which is being used in the locked device. Now click on locate and the app will automatically locate the device. So if your mobile is stolen and not formatted, you literally can catch the thief unless he/she is smart and is not able to erase the data. Anyway, after it connects to the locked mobile, simply press on erase data. press Yes if you are prompted of being sure.
Thats it within seconds, you can see your locked device will reboot into recovery mode and will erase and reset itself. Up on login, it will ask Gmail password. Give it. If you are Xiaomi user, give Mi account no and password. The device unlocks. This works in every device. But there is an easier method if your OEM has enabled FORGOT your password option. So, next method is far easier.
Method-2:
This happens to be the easiest method. But remember, it will not work on Mi devices or some other devices which have their own cloud set up. If you do not remember the PIN, just press 5 times wrong PIN or draw 5 times wrong pattern. There will be one option which you will find below the lock screen i.e. Forgot your password? Press on it. Now give your google userid and password which is there in the mobile. Now the device will unlock. Advantage is that you will not loose any data. Disadvantage is that it does not work in all devices.
Method-3:
The other method is via Recovery mode. This also may not work in some devices like Mi as they do not enable to boot into recovery mode by default. For Mi users, the best method is Method 1 and a root method which is there in upcoming method.
Anyway, to get into recovery mode, you have to first switch off your mobile. Then press, volume + button and power button simultaneously.(Please recheck your manufacturer's method by googling if you can not enter into recovery mode). Once you enter into recovery mode, please reset your mobile from there by navigating via Vol +/- button and selection with power button. Select Wipe/Data factory reset which should be the 2nd last option. This will reset your phone and you will loose all of your personal data.
Method-4:
In all the above methods, you will not loose your warranty. But, if you are a nerd and want to further explore, there is another method, which can help you. For this you have to download the latest adb and twrp for your phone. This method may void your warranty if unlocking the boot loader is not permitted.
Note: Well, this method is for nerd. I do not recommend to all. If not followed correctly, it may brick your device.
Step-1 : Download twrp mentioning your device number from https://twrp.me/Devices/
Step-2: Download adb tool kit from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Step-3: Extract the adb folder to desktop. Copy twrp image file from step 1 into this folder.
Step-4: Download device driver for your mobile and install it on your PC.
Step-5: Now, switch off your mobile and connect the USB cable and wait till PC installs the driver. I recommend that the PC should be connected internet when Windows wants to install the drivers.
Step-5: Now enter into fastboot mode via pressing Vol+/- button and power button simultaneously. Remember, all 3 buttons should be pressed. If you can not enter, just search in google for your specific model for entering into fastboot.
Step-6 : Once Windows finishes the installation of driver, go to adb folder. Keep on pressing shift inside the folder while pressing right click of the mouse. Now leave shift key and select "Open Command window here"
Step-7 : Now type fastboot devices and press enter. You can see a device listed. If not listed, check your device driver and reinstall.
Step-8: Once you see the device. Just type "fastboot OEM unlock" and press enter.
Step-9: wait for 1 to 2 mins till your mobile processes it. This means unlocking bootloader. It normally works for maximum devices.
Step-10: Now in the adb folder rename the twrp image file to simply "twrp.img"
Step-11: Now go to command window, and type "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and hit enter.
Step-12: The mobile will restart and boot into recovery and a screen of TEAM WIN will come up. Wait for few minutes. you will see the screen and swipe to enter.
Step-13: Now inside Team win recovery, go to advanced--> File manager--> Data--> System. Find following files and press on them-->> press on delete and swipe.
password.key
pattern.key
locksettings.db
locksettings.db-shm
locksettings.db-wal
Step-14: Go back to menu. Press reboot and press system.
Step-15: The mobile should reboot.
You can also install new zip file like custom ROM and take back ups inside the TWRP including rooting your device. For some Mi Devices, rooting does not void warranty.
Hope the above methods will help you.
Thats it for today. I will come back with another new post for you guys in some days.
Thank you. Keep smiling and Be kind.
Ashis :)
