Oneplus 6 VS samsung S8 : Battle of mid range flagships

On 16th of May 2018, the whole twitter was filled with Oneplus' fans tweets. Let it be how amazing it looks or how fast it is etc etc. When I tracked all of these activities, I noticed that the Oneplus which we know 4 years back has changed completely over the years. The mobile cost is doubled and the gap between the price of its flagship and the flagship of Tier 1 brand has narrowed down in last 4 years. Next day, Oneplus 6 was launched in India at 34,999 and 39,999 for 6GB RAM/64GB Storage & 8GB RAM/128 GB Storage respectively. The price of both variants increased. But, the flagship champion Samsung has dropped the price of its last year's model S8. Almost, all sites now are selling it at 37,990. So which one you should prefer? I am going to give my opinion in this post.

Specification of Oneplus 6:

Powered by 845, Full HD plus AMOLED panel, notch with 19:9 aspect ratio, Dual camera with 16MP primary shooter with f/1.7 aperture and an OIS, Daily water resistant without any IP certification, Oxygen OS with Oreo 8.1 out of box, 6GB or 8GB RAM, Storage non expandable, 16MP front camera, Type C port, necessary sensors, 3300 mah battery with dash charging.

Goodies: None except a fast Oxygen OS and daily water resistant without any IP protection

Specification of Galaxy S8:

Powered by Exynos 8895 (Or Snapdragon 835 for some markets), HDR 10 2k AMOLED panel with curved display, 18.5:9 aspect ratio with infinity display, Single dual pixel 12 MP rear camera f/1.7 with OIS, 8 MP AF front camera, IP68 water proof, Samsung Experience UI with Android Nougat (Oreo is available), 4GB RAM, 64GB storage which is expandable, Type C port, 3000 mah battery with samsung adaptive charging.

Goodies: IP68, Heart rate sensor, Samsung Pay, IRIS scanner, Quad HD display for VR consumption, Samsung health, Wireless charging.

So if you compare the spec, Samsung S8 is losing only in 2 departments. It sports Snapdragon 835 which is still very powerful and the RAM is 4GB. The camera of S8 is at par with Pixel's. So, OP6 will never ever beat it in still pics and videos.

But, on contrary, if you compare the features and goodies which samsung offers, its just lot more. Let it be IP68 or IRIS scanner or wireless charging etc. These things matter in day to day usage. Even you have a 835 chip (Equivalent exynos), it should make your phone quite fast and the phone will be able to run everything you throw at it. Besides, one should not negate the Samsung service network and of course its brand value.

Verdict:

So, here what I feel. The Oneplus 6 is for only "Oneplus Fans" who loves fluidity of Oxygen OS. But, definitely its not the best overall mobile available in the market. The 128 GB model is over priced for sure. For the most of the users, Samsung S8 should give an overall satisfaction and its a perfect blend of performance and features. So, if I were to choose any one of Oneplus 6 and Samsung S8, I would definitely pick Samsung S8. Not because it is a brand, it just has amazing features like IP68, a stunning camera, looks & Samsung Pay etc.

That's said, if you like only performance and wants a snappy mobile (of course you need to deal with a notch),  you can still consider the 35k variant of OP6. Please note you can't expand the storage though.

That's it friends. I hope I have cleared your doubt. What do you think? What matters to you most? Only speed or a phone with a lot of good and handy features? Let me know in the comments or write to ashisiniter@gmail.com

Keep smiling. Be kind.
